5 Things Spirit Guides Won’t Do for You
Part Two of a three-part series about understanding and working with your Spirit Guides.
Last week, we talked about what Spirit Guides actually do.
They can offer encouragement, inspiration, comfort, and those quiet little nudges that help us notice what we may not have seen on our own.
But just as important is understanding what they won’t do.
Over the years, I’ve found that many people become frustrated with their guides because they expect them to behave more like spiritual problem-solvers. We want clear answers, intervention, reassurance, and sometimes a nice little roadmap telling us exactly what to do next.
Unfortunately, that’s usually not how it works.
1 | They Won't Make Decisions For You
Your guides may help you see a situation differently or bring your attention to possibilities you hadn’t considered, but they are not here to choose for you.
You still have free will.
That means you may receive guidance and decide not to follow it. You may take a path that turns out to be difficult. You may even make what you later consider a mistake.
And you are still allowed to choose again, and again, and again. You are always responsible for those choices.
2 | They Won’t Live Your Lessons for You
There are times when we desperately want Spirit to remove a painful situation.
But some experiences are part of our growth.
Your guides can support you while you move through grief, uncertainty, fear, or change, but they cannot do the healing for you.
Sometimes the very thing we want removed is helping us develop courage, boundaries, compassion, patience, or trust in ourselves.
You've heard the saying, "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."
I firmly believe that there is a blessing in every situation we encounter as humans. And I really do mean, EVERY.
3 | They Won’t Run Your Life
I don’t believe healthy spiritual guidance creates dependency.
Your guides are not meant to become an invisible committee that directs your path in any area of your life. Believe it or not, when you came into this life experience you knew that you would have creative control over all aspects of your journey.
The goal is not to trust yourself less.
It is to become more aware, more discerning, and more confident in your own connection with Spirit and with yourself.
The ideal way to experience this human gig is to become a blended being.
Think of like having one foot in the human world and one foot back home in the Spirit world.
4 | They Won’t Give You a Fixed Future
People often want to know exactly what is going to happen.
Will I get the job? Will this relationship work? Will I move? When will something change?
But the future is influenced by choices, circumstances, and the free will of everyone involved.
Guidance may help you recognize a likely direction, but I would be very cautious about treating the future as something permanently written in stone.
When I see clients, I am able to discuss different lines of potential based on the energy and how life presents itself to me on that day, only.
If my client walks out my door and turns left, that creates one experience, and if they turn right, yet another.
Free will and choices are always a factor in your future.
5 | They Won’t Do Your Emotional Work for You
Your guides can comfort you, encourage you, and perhaps help you see a situation from a broader perspective.
But they cannot have the difficult conversation for you.
They cannot set the boundary.
They cannot forgive on your behalf.
They cannot do the inner work required to change a pattern.
That part belongs to us.
And while that may not sound nearly as exciting as having a Spirit Guide magically fix everything, I actually think it is far more empowering.
Your guides are not here to make you dependent on them. They are here to support you as you become more fully yourself.
Next week, we’ll finish this series with something very practical: how to ask your Spirit Guides for help in ways that may bring you clearer, more useful guidance.
